Year 2

Classes 1 and 2

November 2009

The children in Year 2 are really enjoying the performance theme. We have heard and saw the story of Romeo and Juliet, not a happy ending! We have created our own scripts for several scenes from the play and have practised acting them out. Best of all, the children are excited about the ball and have made some beautiful masks to mark the occasion.

Year Two Team

Year 2 Transition to the Abbey (aka: From Page to Stage)

As part of our efforts to make the move from Year 2 to Year 3 at the Abbey as smooth as possible, teachers from both year groups have got together to plan a joint theme. The theme is called “From Page  to Stage” and the idea is that the children start it at the end of the summer term in Year 2, then finish it when they move up to the Abbey in September.

The theme is all about the children learning how a playscript is different from a story, writing a playscript of their own and then performing the playscript. In Year 2 we have first made a nursery rhyme into a playscript, and then we are thinking of characters and a plot for our own playscript. The Year 3 teachers have been in to see the children while they are working on the playscripts. In September, the Year 2 teachers will go across to the Abbey, along with the new Year 2 children to see the plays being performed.
